Bookrix Bestselling Author Lisa Logue
I'm here with Lisa Logue, a new upcoming author on Bookrix. Even though she is Bookrix's Bestselling author, she's very modest about her incredible talents as writer. I am a big fan of her book Cursed Secrets and its honor to have been able to interview such a talented author, such as Lisa Logue.
Why did your become an author?
I don’t think I technically became an author. Since I was young I’ve been writing short stories and poetry, it seemed natural to take the next step. Writing is in my blood; it fuels me. Everywhere I go, everything I do yields inspiration and I don’t think I’d have it any other way.
When did you decide you were going to start writing a book?
That’s a hard one. I didn’t decide, actually. I had been writing bits and pieces of a story and I asked a friend of mine to read it. I sent her several drafts and she loved it! In the end, she told me that I would be crazy not to finish it and publish. The rest is history!
How do you come with your stories/plot?
I don’t have a definite answer for this one. My mind is a pretty complex place, so all day long I am thinking and molding those thoughts into interesting little webs. The same friend who read Cursed Secrets prior to it being published is often the one I tell my ideas to. If she likes them, I press on. If not, I file it away for something later. I would never say it’s easy, but I’d rather be writing most of the time. It’s just what I do.
Do you remember your first book?
Cursed Secrets is my first novel. I’ve only written smaller scale stories and poetry prior. It took me two years to complete because I didn’t have any direction with it. In the beginning it was simply an idea that ended up blossoming into what you see now. I’m pleased with it, but now I have the undertaking of finishing the series!
How has this impacted you life?
There’s a certain celebrity among my family and friends, seeing as how I am the only one who’s a published author. Others in my family also write, but so far I’m the only one who’s taken my writing to the next level. Once I published Cursed Secrets, it became a bestseller on BookRix in about two weeks. My sales went crazy! Ultimately, I can say it’s been a great experience and one that I’m glad I didn’t pass up. I feel like I’ve added another piece to my life’s puzzle.
What are your plans for future as an author?
First on the list is to complete the Legacy of Secrets series. The sequel to Cursed Secrets will be released this Fall/Winter and the third book in the series should be out Summer of 2013. All of the information can be found on my website at http://lloguebooks.weebly.com
Do have any advice for aspiring authors?
Follow your heart. If you feel like writing is what you need to do, do it! Never let anyone tell you that you can’t or that you aren’t good enough. Read books in different genres and figure out what you enjoy. Writing is one of the few things that can be learned, but it requires dedication. No one is great in the beginning, so don’t be discouraged. Learn from other writers and take their advice in constructive ways. Most of all, you are the only one who can make your dreams come true!
I know you used bookrix as a publisher, what was that experience like?
BookRix was incredibly kind to me. As I stated earlier, my book became a bestseller in a very short period of time and they definitely took notice. They’ve given me an interview as well as an excellent book review (both of which can be found on my website in the “News” section). In short, they’ve been nothing but helpful. It’s been a great experience.
During your journey as an author did you have many challenges and how did you overcome it?
The main challenge for me is time. Aside from writing, I am a single mom, go to college and have a full time job. To say I am a busy person is an understatement! Ultimately, I have to keep myself on a pretty tight schedule if I’m to get any writing done. I don’t usually have any issues with writer’s block so I can definitely say that time is the only factor for me.
Did you get positive support during this journey?
Everyone I know was incredibly supportive. Some were even surprised because I kept it a secret until I was sure that publishing my book was the right thing to do. Once word spread, everyone was cheering me on. It was a great feeling.
I know you’re in college, so how hard is it doing both things at the same time—how do you find the time?
Going back to the earlier question, it’s not easy. I’m constantly going back and forth between papers and my novels. The key to it all is time management. I have a schedule that I do my best to adhere to in order to complete everything in a timely manner. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but usually I prioritize my time well. I make sure to write down any new ideas to go back to later if I’m not in a position to drop everything. It’s hard, but worth it.
For those who have been living under a rock, can you tell us what cursed secret is about and will there be a sequel?
Cursed Secrets is about Lia, a girl whose fate she cannot run from. Her love interest, Christian, is hot and cold, driving her into a madness she didn’t know existed. The others who are helping her are keeping secrets from her in order to save her life, but no one knows whether they can save her.
There will be a sequel, and right now there are up to four books in the series. The sequel will be called Binding Secrets and the third book is Burning Secrets. Any and all information regarding my books is on my website.
